The Youth Experiential Training Institute uses the outdoors as a tool to help students reach their full potential. We engage them with nature. We challenge them. We let them get dirty. We help them push on when they fear they cannot go any further. We provide them with a safe and supportive learning environment. We laugh with them.
We teach them hard skills, like belaying a climbing partner, using an ice axe to safely self-arrest while glissading, or building a z-drag to unpin a raft. We teach them soft skills, like supporting their peers through trying times, working as a key component of a team to reach a common goal, or having empathy for the wild, natural spaces of our earth that need protecting.
We let them make mistakes. We help them reflect. We let them grow.
At Y.E.T.I. our mission is to develop grit in all youth through challenging outdoor adventure.
Y.E.T.I. is a 501(c)(3) founded in 2009 serving students ages 5 to 18 in the South King County area from diverse ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds with meaningful, adventure-based experiences. We offer sliding scale payment options to make Y.E.T.I. financially accessible to all, with families being able to self-select the price that best fits their budget. At Y.E.T.I. we strongly believe that financial hardship should never stand between a child and a life-changing outdoor experience!
If it is outside and challenging, we aim to find ways to let our youth experience it.
Our programming is tailored to fit the needs of our community and takes a variety of forms including:
- day camps
- multiple-day wilderness camps
- skills trainings
We also customize outings for groups, organizations, and classes that are interested in programming that supports our mission. We currently offer programs with curriculum in:
- sea kayaking
It is our quest to make the outdoors accessible to all youth so that they can experience the inclusion of nature.
Wilderness does not see fashion.
Wilderness does not see good or bad grades.
Wilderness welcomes all.
