John Nelson

Founder

Adventure has been a constant in John’s life. As a college student, he wintered in an army tent on the outskirts of Ft. Collins, Colorado; only moving his tent to the river in the summer to work as a whitewater rafting guide. He has led expeditions on Mt. McKinley and the inside passage by sea kayak. He commissioned a one-off arm-powered climbing machine to assist his nephew (with a spinal cord injury) to make first arm powered ascents of the highest peak in Colorado and Mt. Fuji in Japan. He honed his alpine skills as a guide on Mt. Rainier and led expeditions in Mexico and Alaska. His passion lies with rivers, rocks, mountains and stars (and his wife of course). He has experienced the sense of awe, fulfillment, confidence and friendship that comes from putting oneself out there to endure while pursuing a common goal. In 2009, he founded Y.E.T.I. as an outlet for his own kids and their friends to experience the same magic that he felt when he first slept under the stars behind his house as a child. It's just been too rewarding to stop with his own.
